Our History

The Gateway North District was established in 2001 by the Greater New Jersey
Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church .  Leadership for the District began with Dr. Lloyd Preston Terrell who was appointed District Superintendent by Bishop Alfred Johnson in 2001 and by Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar in 2005.  In June 2006 Bishop Sudarshana Devadhar appointed Dr. Robert E Costello as the new District Superintendent. 

The Gateway North district is one of the most culturally diverse district in the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference has started many ministries. These District Ministries include: the Intern Ministry, the Care Pantry, the Blanket Ministry, the Liberian Partnership, the Lay Speaking Ministry, the Youth Ministry, the Prayer Ministry and the Young Adult Ministry. A Ghanaian Mission Church has been started in Irvington.
